ImagineIT Implementation Timeline
Looking back at the initial implementation of my ImagineIT project I focused the project for my Algebra I classes. It was a struggle to implement my project to a course that does not allow the flexibility to include small creative ways to teach in way so students can gain conceptual understanding. I struggled to look for ways to display real world experiences that related to the concepts. I found myself frustrated with thinking creatively. I would do hours of research to come up with mini- project or lesson to achieve my project goals.
I started to have better success with my ImagineIT project with my senior level Financial Algebra class. This course allows me to implement real world perspectives and challenges that bring about conceptual understanding. I do not have to follow a traditional mathematical unit and student show genuine interest in the material. Students find that the information that they are learning will be immediately applicable to their real-world experience. Students can relate and gravitate to how the information they are learning can be used for their short-term goals for post-secondary success. As I reflect on the first implementation phase I change my focus from my Algebra classes to my senior Financial Algebra class.
Moving forward into the second phase of my ImagineIT project I have begun to implement the project activities that coincide with the mathematical concepts in my Algebra class. My classes are currently in the Linear Functions and Linear Equations Unit. I am implementing a few real-world projects. My plan is to frame out the projects and let my students figure out how to be creative in demonstrating conceptual understanding. I have begun to implement small demonstrations within my unit.

Match 2017 Create a Function Project – Create a Snack Machine, Slot Machine, or Stamp Machine
April 2017 Create a Music Video – “Teach Me How to Work a System” (System of Equations)
Starting to gather materials and communicate projects to students. Students are brainstorming ideas on how to create a slot machine. Students also have been are thinking about how functions relates to the real world. Also I am starting to map out my quick activity on making a video to on teaching systems. Need more resources and ideas on how to achieve these in a short amount of time. Also I need to be mindful of how to gather evidence and artifacts- pictures of students working , stages and a finished product.
